...and a little bit more

My first job was baking at the now closed Barts Ice-Cream in Northampton, MA. I loved working alone in the predawn hours.

For my undergraduate degree I attended Tisch at NYU.

In New York I had the absolute joy of working at Sticky Fingers Bakery. Even now, hearing reggae makes me think about baking muffins.

In 2003 I entered the Peace Corps in Georgia (the country, not the state), where I had the pleasure of learning Georgian, a language isolate.

For my MFA I attended UIOWA.

I really, really (and I cannot stress this enough) love hot green chiles. The best come from New Mexico, where I lived as a kid.

At 15 a friend and I were rescued from the Shasta National Forest in California by French Alpine helicopter and the selfless help of a retired Vietnam veteran.

I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at 39. I wish I'd started at 16. It would have saved me a lot of trouble.
